First Limit from a Surface Run of a 10 Liter Dark Matter Time Projection Chamber by Thomas S . Caldwell
نویسنده
چکیده
A 10 liter prototype Dark Matter Time Projection Chamber (DMTPC) is operated on the surface of the earth at 75 Torr using carbon-tetrafluoride (CF 4) as a target material to obtain a 24.57 gram-day exposure. A limit is set on a likely dark matter candidate, the weakly interacting massive particle. This is the first limit from the DMTPC detector, and the goal is to understand the sensitivity of the detector. In addition, this detector is used to measure the mean energy and attenuation coefficient of electrons propagating in CF 4.

Updates from the Dark Matter Time Projection Chamber Group (DMTPC)
The Dark Matter Time Projection Chamber (DMTPC) collaboration has developed a series of gas-based detectors with the goal of detecting the directional anisotropy of dark-matter-induced nuclear recoils. Here, we report on recent progress from the DMPTC group, focusing on the surface operation of the 4shooter detector.
متن کاملDark Matter Results from First 98.7 Days of Data from the PandaX-II Experiment.
We report the weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter search results using the first physics-run data of the PandaX-II 500 kg liquid xenon dual-phase time-projection chamber, operating at the China JinPing underground laboratory. No dark matter candidate is identified above background. In combination with the data set during the commissioning run, with a total exposure of 3.3×10^...
متن کاملSimulations of neutron background in a time projection chamber relevant to dark matter searches
Presented here are results of simulations of neutron background performed for a time projection chamber acting as a particle dark matter detector in an underground laboratory. The investigated background includes neutrons from rock and detector components, generated via spontaneous fission and (α,n) reactions, as well as those due to cosmic-ray muons. Neutrons were propagated to the sensitive v...
متن کاملReconstructing Nuclear Recoil Tracks in the Dark
Astrophysical evidence indicates that 23% of our universe's energy density is in the form of nonluminous, nonbaryonic matter referred to as dark matter. One theoretically appealing dark matter candidate is the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP). Because of astrophysical dynamics, the detectable signal from the expected WIMP dark matter halo should exhibit a unique daily directional modu...
متن کاملSinglet scalar dark matter in noncommutative space
In this paper, we examine the singlet scalar dark matter annihilation to becoming the Standard Model particles in the non-commutative space. In the recent decades, many candidates of dark matter have been offered, but our information about the nature of dark matter is still limited. There are such particle candidates as scalar matetr, fermion, boson, gauge boson, etc.; however, they have nei...
